On September 22, the McCain campaign charged The New York Times is “150%” behind Barack Obama.
McCain spokesman Steve Schmidt observed: “Whatever The New York Times once was, it is today not by any standard a journalistic organization. It is a pro-Obama advocacy organization that every day attacks the McCain campaign, attacks Senator McCain, attacks Governor Palin, and excuses Obama.”
It’s rare for a presidential campaign to denounce a media outlet. Of course, Schmidt is right. But – what else is new? The Times’ treatment of McCain/Palin is the latest chapter in a record of bias and distortion stretching back decades.
In every presidential campaign, The Times does it’s best to boost the Democratic nominee and tear down the GOP candidate. It points out every misstep of the Republican and devotes loving attention to every allegation against him, while refusing to subject the Democrat to the same scrutiny.
The Times has either ignored or downplayed: 1. Obama’s advisors who’ve made millions from failed financial institutions that have contributed to the current crisis 2. The candidate’s multiple ties to convicted financier/fund-raiser Tony Rezko 3. Obama’s far-left record as a United States Senator and a member of the Illinois Senate 4. Obama’s connections to ‘60s militants William (“Kill the Pigs!”) Ayers and his wife Bernardine Dohrn 5. Obama’s anti-Israel advisors and 6. Obama’s presence at anti-Semite Louis Farrakhan’s 1995 “Million Man March” and Obama’s defense of same.
Regarding the 2008 presidential race, the McCain camp says The New York Times “has made a decision to cast aside its journalistic integrity.” That decision was made years ago.
