NY Times Whitewashes Obama’s Relationship With Ayers

A story in today’s New York Times tries to rationalize the multiple ties between Barack Obama and ‘60s radical William Ayers, a leader of the Weatherman Underground.

While mentioning a September 11, 2001 article in its pages, in which Ayers declared, “I don’t regret setting bombs. I feel we didn’t do enough,” it informs readers that the ex-demolitions expert later claimed his remarks “had been distorted.”

How do you distort “I don’t regret settings bombs”?

The article notes that Ayers, now a professor at the University of Illinois, “worked with him (Obama) on a school project and a charitable board and gave a house party when Mr. Obama was running for the State Senate.”

The Times even tries to whitewash the Weathermen, by reporting that most of their bombings “were meant to damage property only” -while acknowledging that one killed a San Francisco policeman.

Here’s what The Times neglected to tell you:

  • Ayers and his comrades carried out more than 30 bombings including the New York City Police headquarters (1970), the Capitol building (1971) and the Pentagon (1972). It’s only by the grace of God that more weren’t killed and injured.
  • Ayers encapsulated his philosophy at the time as “Kill all the rich people. … Bring the revolution home. Kill your parents.”
  • Far from repenting of his violent past, Ayers glories in it.
  • Currently, Ayers’ stated educational goal is to “teach against oppression” embodied in “America’s history of evil and racism, thereby forcing social transformation.” Toward that end, he founded a group called the Chicago Annenberg Challenge (CAC) and chose Obama as the organization’s first chairman. CAC in turn made grants to leftist groups like ACORN.
  • Ayers also served with Obama on the Woods Fund of Chicago, another money conduit to radical causes.
  • Besides Obama’s friendship with Ayers, his wife Michelle is also chummy with Ayers’ wife, Bernardine Dohrn.

The Times is once again running interference for the Obama campaign, by trying to portray his association with an unrepentant terrorist as casual and entirely innocent. It’s neither.
